Can I make MPV be a floating window by default?

I tried adding for_window [class="mpv"] floating enable in my .i3/config. I'm trying to make it so that the window that pops up when I do something like mpv https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHioIlbnS_A pops up as a floating window, not tiling.

Also, is there any way to theme the mpv player? I like it a lot, but the buttons are kind of ugly.

Why not just use:

mpv --player-operation-mode=pseudo-gui

That's correct. Did you reload i3 config or restart i3?

As for theming, you can try one of the mpv frontends like gnome-mpv or Smplayer.
