After the latest upgrade, I get times when the keyboard does not respond after booting. I have to turn it down and restart, sometimes twice, before it works again. I can log in with my password but that is all. If I only reboot, it still does not work. Annoying. Any idea what hass gone wrong? thanks
Welcome back! Long time no see!
Could you explain what you mean by "turn it down and restart":
- unplug and replug the keyboard?
- lightly press the shutdown button on your computer (<1 second)
- reboot with the mouse
- Reboot with REISUB?
- Something else?
Could you explain what you mean by "I can log in with my password but that is all":
- Your keyboard works on the login screen but not in the application screen
- You can login to the TTY but not the graphics screen?
- Something else entirely?
And as you didn't fill in your profile last time except that you're running on KDE, please read this again as well as we need some more information:
My keyboard works on the log in screen but not in the applicaation screen. The mouse responds but not the keyboard.
Running 18.1.0 with all updates -KDE
I will add that I have been using only Manjaro ( no Windows at all) on this machine since 2017 and this is the first time I encounter this problem. Won't help much I am afraid.
Reading this and posting more information will help though:
Thank you but how do I get my text/terminal/code? I am just a user, sorry
Have you tried with another keyboard?
Recently I thought my main computer broke down, because of what appeared to be to be freezes and an unresponsive computer. It only worked every tenth reboot or so, and only for a while.
Spent two weeks debugging, and then and 700 euros on new parts. But the problem persisted. Turned out it was the friggin' mouse. The actual damn mouse, who woulda thunk? Got me a spankin' new computer, though.
it's a laptop! and it only started after the latest upgrade.
Ah!
If you post the model, maybe someone else have the same one.
It's a Clevo with a 4xIntel Core i3 -4000
but it comes and goes. Each time I boot, I never know if the keyboard will respond or not. Nebver had this trouble before
Until you get some qualified help, I'd try booting into live usb's from other distros, just to see if it is Manjaro related. And then different kernels with Manjaro.
Thank you. In fact, since it seems to happen mainly if I reboot, I turn it off and restart....but occasionally even that sticks. Perhaps the next upgrade will fix it.
Unfortunately, you haven't gotten much help from anyone because you haven't read this. It will help you greatly, and us, in determining what is wrong. We cannot assist you if you do not assist yourself. The link below is even expandable, you don't even have to leave this page to read it. I would suggest paying attention to the section that says First no matter what the problem.
Thank you:

Thank you! Much better! Next time; please enclose the output of the inxi
command in-between opening and closing ``` as per this:
Onto the important stuff:
-
upgrade the kernel as you're on 5.4.10 follow the instructions here
to update the kernel to both 5.5 and 4.19
-
test both of those
-
see if the problem goes away...
We thank you for your cooperation...

[ms@ms-pc ~]$ ```
Perfect. Can you run dmesg | grep usb
in the terminal next, post the results with ``` before and after just like your last post.
dmesg: read kernel buffer failed: Operation not permitted
That's my bad, I forgot sudo
, so add that sudo dmesg | grep usb
and run, post results.
