Cannot use keyboard ( after upgrade) [closed]

it's a laptop! and it only started after the latest upgrade.

Ah!
If you post the model, maybe someone else have the same one.

It's a Clevo with a 4xIntel Core i3 -4000

but it comes and goes. Each time I boot, I never know if the keyboard will respond or not. Nebver had this trouble before

Until you get some qualified help, I'd try booting into live usb's from other distros, just to see if it is Manjaro related. And then different kernels with Manjaro.

Thank you. In fact, since it seems to happen mainly if I reboot, I turn it off and restart....but occasionally even that sticks. Perhaps the next upgrade will fix it.

Unfortunately, you haven't gotten much help from anyone because you haven't read this. It will help you greatly, and us, in determining what is wrong. We cannot assist you if you do not assist yourself. The link below is even expandable, you don't even have to leave this page to read it. I would suggest paying attention to the section that says First no matter what the problem.

Thank you! Much better! Next time; please enclose the output of the inxi command in-between opening and closing ``` as per this:

Onto the important stuff:

  1. upgrade the kernel as you're on 5.4.10 follow the instructions here

to update the kernel to both 5.5 and 4.19

  2. test both of those

  3. see if the problem goes away...

We thank you for your cooperation...

Perfect. Can you run dmesg | grep usb in the terminal next, post the results with ``` before and after just like your last post.

dmesg: read kernel buffer failed: Operation not permitted

That's my bad, I forgot sudo, so add that sudo dmesg | grep usb and run, post results.

How to search the forum

Before posting a new thread, try searching the forum to see if your question has already been asked.

Searching is easy - click on the magnifying glass icon in the top-right corner, and type one or more keywords. Threads and posts containing that keyword will then be shown.

For example, if you’re posting about a Dell XPS 15 9560, try searching for “Dell 9560” or “XPS 9560”. It’s very likely that the issues you’re having will already be under discussion!

If looking for something very specific, you could also try a search engine and add the site to the search options, e.g. site:archived.forum.manjaro.org <search_term>.

Can you add an inxi --full --verbosity=7 to your last answer, please?

Well, the problem goes on. I had several days with no problem then it started again. The other day all was working. I was using Firefox. Then I switched to Chrome and...the keyboard stopped responding. Worked after turning down and booting. Today, all was going well untill I opened Gmail. The keyboard stopped responding. I stopped/booted several times, same problem. So I am again asking for help.
Kernel 4.19.97-1 so changing kernel didn't help.
Thanks for your help

Have you tried an external keyboard yet? The only thing I can think of now is the keyboard itself malfunctioning...

I wouldn't know how to fit another keyboard

Go to a a friend, borrow an external keyboard, plug it into a USB slot, try.

I doubt if it is the keyboard. After several day without troubles, it was functioning without trouble until I tried to write on Gmail and....I could not. Just rebooted and it works again
