Connection issues with kernel 5.3 and I219-V (e1000e)

Ever since I started using the 5.3 kernel, my network card seems to have trouble getting an IP address at boot.
It gets stuck at the "getting an IP adress" phase for about a minute until it finally works. This also means that all my network mounts and scripts fail at boot.
This issue is non-existent if I go back to 5.2.

My network info:

Device-1: Intel Ethernet I219-V vendor: Gigabyte driver: e1000e v: 3.2.6-k port: f000 bus ID: 00:1f.6
chip ID: 8086:15b8
IF: enp0s31f6 state: up speed: 1000 Mbps duplex: full

(This is wired, btw.)

Lots of info here about e1000e.

Yeah, but none of them seem related to my problem. The connection works just fine after it finally gets an IP address.

What clues do

journalctl -b | grep e1000e

provide?

Especially between the 5.2 and 5.3 boots.

I'm not sure if there's any useful information here. So I included NetworkManager as well. The network card seems to be just connecting/disconnecting over and over until it succeeds...

Edit: Tried to set the IP manually and the NIC just keeps connecting/disconnecting anyways, so it's probably not a DHCP issue at all.

You can try the dkms hint (for 5.3) here.

If all you are using is ethernet, you can try to use just systemd-networkd to manage your connection. My box is ethernet only, and I just use dhcpcd.

can you provide

inxi -Fxxxza

if you are using a internet box , check also ipv6 and ipv4 are working both

try to update your bios

I've updated the bios, it did not change anything (But for some reason the network interface changed name from enp13s0 to eno1).
Tried using that e1000e driver from the AUR, but I'm not sure I got it to install properly. The build reported some segmentation fault for for the 5.3 module... and kernel 4.19 started to behave the same way as 5.3...

So for now I've downgraded to 4.19 LTS as 5.2 has been EOL for awhile now. But I hope this issue will get resolved in the future as I don't wanna be stuck on 4.19 forever. :stuck_out_tongue:
