Did a "sudo pacman -Syu", now it doesn't boot anymore

Hello, I typed "sudo pacman -Syu" in the console window recently in order to get new updates.

After the update process finished the system doesn't start up anymore. It hangs on the screen showing the text "manjaro" where the five points colors changing from white to green and vice versa.

I have no idea what to do :frowning:

Help - thank you for reading my post

PS: I used to update my Manjaro system periodically without problems with this command for few years without thinking about it and without any problems, but this time it's really stuck.

If you read the following post, a little way down, it talks about how to get information on non-booting problems.

Do you have a USB stick with a live Manjaro?
Boot with it and retreive
/var/log/pacman.log
and
/var/log/Xorg.0.log
and post its contents via hastebin.com or similar.

Output: see https://pastebin.com/LzMsKLAT

Ahm, is it from the installed or from the live system? I guess from the live system, therefore vmware.

You need to mount the installed system first, then access the files.

Sorry, my bad, I was in the in the directory of the live system. The new log from the mounted system: https://pastebin.com/tp8iNaYL

Thank you very much for your attention

The Xorg.0.log seems still to be from the live system. However we can guess that xorg upgrade caused the issue. So chroot into the installed system and downgrade xorg and xorg-common

manjaro-chroot /mnt
pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/xorg-server*1.19.6+13+gd0d1a694f-1*pkg.tar.xz

Edit: I corrected the command, the version is -1.

Sadly it doesn't work:

What I'm doing wrong?

Try manjaro-chroot -a instead, it will try to find the installed system automatically.

I tried manjaro-chroot -a, the console output looked very promising but it still hangs upon boot.

Fron pacman.log
[2018-04-15 00:02] [ALPM] transaction interrupted
What happened at that time, why interrupted?

Wait ... I remember, I think a possible cause is that I SSH'd to this Manjaro host from a Windows machine using Putty, then doing a "pacman -Syu" from remote. When I came back, the Putty client said: the SSH connection was reset by peer. After this, everything seems to work as expected but after the a reboot, the things got stuck.

OK, so it was an interrupted update. There are several posts around that may fix that for you. I think you just need to restart the update or something.
