Gnome “power saving - blank screen” does not work

When setting the "power saving - blank screen" in gnome, it does not work for me. This is what is happening: After the time of idle (for example 5minutes) has run out, the screens slowly dim out to black. Then they immediately comes to live again showing the lock screen background (but I do not have the Screen Lock enabled in settings). Then, after a few seconds the screens goes black, just to come alive again showing the lock screen background again. And so it keeps on, until Enter is pressed, and then I am back on my desktop. I'll guess that the power save should have settled when it first slowly was dimmed to black, and stayed in that condition, until "waked up" again.
