hi all
i just get the latest stable manjaro with gnome
i quite like it, but have some minor issues, or more probable that -as i use linux at 1st time,- i don't know how to set up properly
i have a mini pc, beelink x55, j5005 gemini lake intel graphics hd 605
i choose non-free at installation, by misunderstanding, i don't know if this effects on a bad way, but i don't think, as in the settings i have only open source driver option, with this under

if i install video-vesa, i have black out after reboot, i needed to install again.
now i'm confused, as i have no clue if everything is correct. on w10 i have nvidia settings, but here obviously i don't know how is supposed to be correct (i'm not a w10 and hw specialist too)
at first install i also had here the nvidia settings, but didn't open the app, now with second install it's not there anymore. i both used non-free
should i install again with free option?

also i have animation issues, they are extremely slow especially when i open gnome apps. it feels like i have 256mb of ram
w10 boots 10-15 secs, manjaro about a minute. even after type password, it needs to load the desktop again another 15 secs

my question is; what should i do to make sure i have proper driver installed for this pc?

i don't know if this connected, but also when i open up the file manager, it need like 5 secs to bring it up, while i guess with this pc should fly for these things (but for example gimp takes about same time, even if it should be much heavier app)

sorry, i know well i'm extremely noob with linux, but i need a kickstart

in fact it's not even option, only i can choose open source and only that video-linux works.
i also wrote that i did with misunderstanding (that means after i realized i need the free option) plus also that i'm not specialist

So don't install that driver. The best driver for your hardware should be detected during installation.

Do you have NVIDIA graphics? If not, the NVIDIA driver won't have installed, so you won't have that application either.

You probably want to switch from the intel driver to modesetting. Essentially, remove xf86-video-intel and reboot.

Yeah - I suspect the GPU is too new or not known to Xorg so it's falling back to the old i915 driver. Switching to modesetting should fix the graphics issues.

i know i don't have nvidia, just to make clear. i only said, i had on w10 a settings panel(don't ask me why).
i just wanted mo make sure if the recent driver is the best, or this lags are normal on any linux/manjaro/gnome
i wrote everything in the 1st post, to give more info, that i thought is needed to my question, next time i try to think twice how i ask.

This is a good opportunity for some research so you can start to become more self-sufficient. Yes, I could write down the exact instructions (yet again) but this has been covered all over the forum and wider web (e.g. the Arch wiki).

You can always check your running processes with htop or your GUI task manager to see CPU and/or memory consumption during working with apps.
Also check the logs for errors

not as important, but as i wanna be able to handle linux
i installed dolphin, cuz for me suits more. i did pin it to the favs, but when i open it, it brings a second icon

i looked for solution, but did't find yet
if i undersand well, i should somehow change the name of .desktop
they mean this?

if yes, obviously the rename is inactive, so i can't change. as i see it's the only unknown file, may be that the deal?
pls let me know if i'm going on a good direction, or let me have some hint

Then why not using KDE Plasma? I mean, Dolphin File Manager in Gnome ... it installed so many dependencies and will always open a new instance, but not the Gnome way.
Look at the difference between org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop and org.kde.dolphin.desktop files inside /usr/share/applications
You have to gnomify the dolphin *.desktop file to work the Gnome way (and even so, might not behave as it does at it's home=KDE Plasma)
Anyway ... i appreciate people that are enthusiasts and experiment a lot of things

@ii9, I think at this point you are getting information slung at you from everywhere. Most of it is good, but I'm sure it is overwhelming as well.

Perhaps it is time to just step back and examine what is Linux? And what are the available Desktop Environments--how to configure and use them. Separately.
