Hplip Unable to receive key from server

After the download is done of the hplip binaries I receive the message 'Unable to receive key from server'

Some log about the key:
hp-plugin[24411]: debug: File error page score: 0.000000
hp-plugin[24411]: debug: Validating /home/xxx/.hplip/hplip-3.20.6-plugin.run with /home/charlyp/.hplip/hplip-3.20.6-plugin.run.asc signature file
Receiving digital keys: /usr/bin/gpg --homedir /home/xxx/.hplip/.gnupg --no-permission-warning --keyserver pgp.mit.edu --recv-keys 0x4ABA2F66DBD5A95894910E0673D770CDA59047B9
hp-plugin[24411]: debug: gpg: keyserver receive failed: No keyserver available

hp-plugin[24411]: debug: gpg: keyserver receive failed: No keyserver available

Why are you downloading the binaries manually? hplip is available in the repos:

sudo pacman -Syu hplip

I have done that command. And nothing to update.

If I search on the pgp.mit.edu website you will not find the key as it gives an error.

And I'm able to find it on another key server: http://keyserver.ubuntu.com/pks/lookup?search=0x4ABA2F66DBD5A95894910E0673D770CDA59047B9&fingerprint=on&op=index

Are you sure? If you did, you'd have HP Device Manager (hplip) installed and wouldn't be fiddling with incompatible binaries and lost PGP keys.

Updated my post above.

Well, did you install hplip or not? What's the output of:

pacman -Qi hplip

Yes it is installed:

Well, there you go. Case closed. :closed_book:

Now go configure your printer or whatever it was you were trying to do.

It in that step that I got that error with the key not found:

installingprinter.keynotfound

Well, why didn't you say so to begin with? The .run and .asc files on HP's website are not related.

You're not the only one who has been having issues with PGP keys lately. For now, just choose Yes in that dialog to install the plugin-in anyway.

Thats what I ment in my first post.

I'll try the Yes option.

Result:

  1. Key not found
  2. Press Yes
  3. PlugIn Installed successfully

Did it running in command line with

hp-plugin -g

, otherwise it complained that it needed a valid binary key for installing the printer.

I was wrong tried to print and then the printer was not found.
So tried with the gui and there it asked to install a printer, so it complained about the key, I clicked Yes. But a message that i missed appeared:

installingprinter.signedbinrequired

Well, did you follow the instructions?

Yes I tried the command they give, there all seems fine but when going back to the HpLib Gui it asks to add a divice, and that is what I just did before.

What's the model number of the printer?

Hello, here the number:

Hp Color Laserjet Pro MFP M277dw

I had similar issues getting an HP Color Laserjet CM1312 printer to work.

I gave up and used cups instead - maybe you'd want to give that a try:

sudo systemctl enable org.cups.cupsd.service

sudo systemctl start org.cups.cupsd.service

Then go to http://localhost:631, click administration and add you printer (I think I just used the default settings, but it's been some weeks).

At least for me, printing worked and I never touched that HP GUI thing again.

I'm able to print now.
Thanks for the help
