Hey Everybody,

I´m new to Manjaro and pretty new to Linux, you can call me a Newbee

unfortunately I can´t get my old Laptop to run with Manjaro - i hope you can give me further advice.

A short briefing what happend so far:

I can start Manjaro from Stick till the "Welcome to Manjaro"-Screen where you select Language and so on. From there it boots into a black Screen.

I created an USB in UEFI and one in BIOS Morde via RUFUS, both not working.
Now I tried with Etcher, but the same result.

If I edit the Start-Command with Shortcut 'E' and give the following parameters:

setparams 'Boot: Manjaro.X86_64 xfce ' 'x86_64 lang=de_DE keytable=de tz=UTC driver=free i915.modeset=1 radeon.modeset=0 misobasedir=manjaro misolabel=MJR17110 systemd.show_status=1

It boots, then comes to Error

“Failed to Start Light Display Manager.” – See ‘ systemctl status lightdm.service’ for details.

But from there I can get into the console with

 ‘ctrl’ + ‘alt’ + ‘F6’ 

If I made everything right the lightdm-service.txt is empty?

So I don´t know what to do next and need some further instructions.

I hope you can help me, looks like my Graphic Card is difficult for manjaro, but I saw on this thread:
lenovo-ideapad-y560p
that it runs under manjaro as well.

Any ideas anybody?
Please give instructions how to proceed, I am a total newbee.

Ehrm.. No, ISO should be just totally fine.

As written, there must be something graphical going on wrong.

Maybe try some older manjaro iso?

That´s not working with the Standard Starting Options.

I didn´t try that so far, I hoped I can get that to run like hippster did (see linked post above)

I will download some other versions tonight and try these...

If someone has other ideas meanwhile I´m happy to try my best.

I´ve downloaded Manjaro XFCE Edition (18.0-beta-2) and try that now.

Start with regular options: black Sceen
Console: not reachable

Next try:

Message with vanilla settings wouldn't hurt

AMDGPU-experimental works with linux 4.14, but not with 4.16, 4.17, 4.18

I'm trying to make use of another of mine. When I boot with linux414 I get to the graphical session. But when I boot with higher series of the kernel I get to the state, where the monitor loses the signal and goes to energy save mode. The monitor doesn't start when I switch to a TTY but I can restart the machine with Ctrl+Alt+F2-6 and then Ctrl+Alt+Del. Don't touch the iso in any way, and just report the error you get there?
If it's just a black screen, you can boot in text mode by appending 3 at the end of the boot parameters.
