Keyboard backlight control not working on Manjaro KDE, but works on vanilla arch.

Hi,
I have an ASUS TUF Gaming FA506IV_FX506IV laptop.
It seems that the keyboard backlight works on vanilla arch, but not the latest edition of Manjaro KDE.
I'm getting the following error message in dmesg:

[ 8.233552] asus_wmi: ASUS WMI generic driver loaded
[ 8.253036] asus-nb-wmi asus-nb-wmi: Detected ATK, not ASUSWMI, use DSTS
[ 8.253038] asus-nb-wmi asus-nb-wmi: Detected ATK, enable event queue
[ 8.253183] asus-nb-wmi: probe of asus-nb-wmi failed with error -5

Any idea how to solve this?
Thanks.

Which kernel are you using in both places?

With vanilla arch it's the latest arch kernel: 5.7.7.arch1-1, with manjaro it's the latest manjaro kernel: 5.7.0-3.
Are you suggesting, this issue has been fixed in a newer kernel?

Assuming Arch is probably also KDE, stable Manjaro is plasma 5.18 and Arch is 5.19. it could be a key binding setting. Although I thought my keyboard backlight was a firmware thing, I have no idea if all keyboards are like that.

Or sometimes even an older one. I usually run the LTS kernel, but I've got two laptops from '15, '16. Nothing new in my world.

I have an ASUS Tuff FX505 and the backlight works in manjaro even with the 5.6 kernel.

The ASUS TUF FX505 seems to be an older model than my laptop.
Could you post your output of dmesg | grep asus?

Not right now, sorry, Im on pc, If you don't mind first thing tomorrow you'll have it

No problem

Hi!
This is my dmesg | grep sus

[ 3.469732] asus_wmi: ASUS WMI generic driver loaded
[ 3.475326] asus_wmi: Initialization: 0x1
[ 3.475505] asus_wmi: BIOS WMI version: 8.1
[ 3.475654] asus_wmi: SFUN value: 0x4a0061
[ 3.475659] asus-nb-wmi asus-nb-wmi: Detected ATK, not ASUSWMI, use DSTS
[ 3.475662] asus-nb-wmi asus-nb-wmi: Detected ATK, enable event queue
[ 3.605035] input: Asus WMI hotkeys as /devices/platform/asus-nb-wmi/input/input16

Seems like the asus_wmi driver detects your laptop model...
Maybe this is just fixed in a newer kernel version, that will eventually come to manjaro.

Hi!
Actually I'm using 5.7.0.3
I know with 5.8 there gonna be some improvements for amd cpu/laptops

Keyboard Backlighting worked correctly with my Asus ROG GL552JX.

The newer kernels on the testing branch fix this issue.
