lightdm memory issue or leak job

Hey guys so I am trying to figure out what exactly this recently bug I discovered happening and trying to figure out what is or what exactly causing it but from a few tests I am still not sure other than lightdm will slowly grow in memory size until it starts to cause the whole system to become laggy and slightly unstable. I took some screenshots and after a while the memory usage and even at times cpu spikes which end up causing performances issues in games and laggy moment of video or some audio lag and stutter when using discord for example.

I did a few tests with different things running on them on for a little bit but couldn't duplicate it guessing it wasn't anything specific I was running.

I also found that suspending once it has started to grow will make it grow even more in ram size, here is 2 examples. one was when it was on and I couldn't replicate it on it's own but did manage to see memory growth after suspending.

Screenshot_2020-08-09_04-01-12

It's increased to 5% since this screen shot and here is the worst example after it really started to leak than in this screenshot of it just on

Screenshot_2020-08-09_01-58-57

It went from 6gb to eventually to 10gb of ram

Here is my hardware (again nothing special)

Thought it might of been the game I was playing which was Runescape but testing it on it's own like I said didn't show any results unless I didn't run it long enough but even than I did a test with another game of Warframe for a little run and didn't see it happen but even than I have seen a slow increase of ram on it's own doing nothing or after being suspended but mainly just while it's on is where it has mainly done it after a while as if it's memory leaking or something..

Hey

What says the Xorg.0.log when the ram usage is growing?

Please poste the output of:

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log

and

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old

Reopened because there's probably still a bug somewhere. Although this bug is now assigned to xorg-server I don't actually think Xorg is to blame. Xorg just owns the memory that applications have requested resources within.

The Bug Description shows Xorg's RSS creeping over 700MB which does sound like a bug. However xrestop does not seem to explain it, as that only shows 110MB of usage.

The next step here is for you to figure out exactly which app is causing the leakage. To test each app, please log out and in again, then leave just one app running overnight and nothing else.

According to this an application causes the huge ram. Need to be investigated which app

Have you tried a kernel that is not EOL?

I can try, but I am having issues figuring out if it is another application as it also seems to just grow in size on it's own after a while, thanks for the information

I might go back to kernel 5.7 and see if it's any different
