manjaro kde boots to black screen with only a mouse

My bladebook boots to a black screen. I have a mouse and can start programs from a terminal, but there is no internet. I have no clue what the problem is. Something which I think is a bit strange is that the output of mhwd --pci -li is No installed PCI configs!

Any ideas what the problem is?

Can you switch to terminal with Ctrl+Alt+F4?
If yes then log in to terminal and launch the command nmtui. You should be able to connect to WiFi with it.

When you connected you can send some informational terminal output with a pastebin service

Or you can install the program pastebinit and use it for uploading terminal output.

sudo pacman -S pastebinit
inxi -Fxxxza --no-host | pastebinit
pastebinit -i /var/log/Xorg.0.log
pastebinit -i /var/log/pacman.log

I hope the devs who use the Bladebook will come to help with more precise solutions soon.

If anyone wants to send me a bladebook, I'll get right on it

Try starting wifi from a tty (nmtui) and then install GNOME or XFCE or something if the problem perisists

Better not Gnome or Xfce, because it will cause bloat. But an easy to use WM like fvwm or awesome could be a nice addition for the Bladebook.
But better first get some system information and later install whatsoever DE or WM.

It looks more like a videa driver isnt installed .. which is odd, because isnt it integrated intel ?
If they can get to runlevel 3 or TTY then an inxi would probably show one way or the other..

inxi -Fxxxza --no-host

Internet works with nmtui that is good.
The output of inxi -Fxxxza --no-host is

Let's read now.

Common non-fatal message on Plasma/SDDM.

Did sddm crashed? Or is plasma working but black screen.

Does it actually make sense for this to be intel for graphics and modesetting for display ?

I would back up or wipe out anything that has to do with intel in any of these directories:
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ or /etc/mhwd.d/ or /etc/modprobe.d/
.. then force reinstall through mhwd ..
sudo mhwd -f -i pci video-linux

systemctl status sddm returns

The situation is still unchanged.

Hmm, I can check on the Bladebook of our first batch with a newer image or install an old image and update it. Does SDDM get displayed or is that also right away a black screen with mouse?

I am not sure what your mean. I get the login screen and after logging in it displays a default manjaro background. After this it displays my own background and then it goes black. The panel never appears.

This is probably a KDE issue. That's why I suggested installing another desktop, but what would also work is resetting the KDE settings.
Try installing a new desktop (for example: sudo pacman -S xfce is a lightweight one)
After that, try startx or startxfce4 to start XFCE4.
Then, using that, create a new user. After that, reboot and log in to the new user. If it works, that means it's a KDE issue. Read this to reset your settings: https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=150900

I installed xfce with the Light Display Manager and logged in as a new user. But the same happened. I am considering doing a complete reinstall.

Have you enabled LightDM or still using SDDM?
When logged in your "blacked" session, check if any shortcuts work.
For example Alt+F2 should start kRunner. Then you might start some apps or terminal.

If on terminal try this

killall plasmashell ; sleep 3 ; kwin --replace ; sleep 5 ; kstart plasmashell

IIRC disabling the compositor is Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Backspace.

OK, if sddm had crashed it would produce a similar situation on login screen but your sddm seems to be working.

I'm doing guesswork here so I'm sure if it will help or confuse you but I had a black screen issue (no mouse) some time ago when I installed nvidia-xrun and it changed or erased xorg.conf.d contents and I had to set a specific conf to boot, at first I tried modesetting and then after some testing I figured out I needed DRI 3 for my intel graphics to work so I changed it, it's kind of shooting in the dark but maybe you want to try each one at a time on the xorg.conf.d folder, adjusting your BusID with lspci for your graphic.

modesetting.conf
Section "Device"
        Identifier "Intel Graphics"
        Driver "modesetting"
EndSection
20-intel.conf
Section "Device"
        Identifier "Intel Graphics"
        Driver "intel"
        BusID "PCI:0:2:0"
        Option "DRI" "3"
        # DRI2 and DRI1 are alternatives if DRI3 performs performs poorly
        #Option "TearFree" "true"
        #Option "AccelMethod" "sna" # default
        #Option "AccelMethod" "uxa" # fallback
EndSection

If it doesn't work don't forget to erase the conf.

Thanks for the effort guys. Nothing seemed to help, so I just completely reinstalled manjaro.
