Manjaro refuses to update after reinstall

I recently reinstalled manjaro to start lean and mean, have this issue: Pacman broken (invalid or corrupted package)
I did every single thing in Issues with "signature is marginal trust" or "invalid or corrupted package" including the nuclear thing. All the commands executed successfully, except for the manual reinstall of some the keyrings. That command was sudo pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/{archlinux,manjaro}-keyring*.pkg.tar.xz.

loading packages...
error: '/var/cache/pacman/pkg/archlinux-keyring*.pkg.tar.xz': could not find or read package
warning: manjaro-keyring-20190608-1 is up to date -- reinstalling

So it seems that I have the manjaro keyring but not the arch keyring. I quit the initial pamac update that I always do, because it was stuck at installing knotifyconfig or something similar (It said 50 seconds remaining for 40 minutes), so this is probably because of that-any ideas?
NOTE: I can still install packages, just not update

I'm on manjaro kde.

`inxi -Fzzz` (yes my system is named danger, not a virus haha) ```

[codic@danger ~]$

Have a look here if that helps to solve your issue: How to solve keyring issues in Manjaro

Wow. I didn't have gnupg installed!
Installing and trying again

I put this in a script, gonna go for a while, will see if it has worked when I come back:

sudo rm -rf /etc/pacman.d/gnupg
sudo pacman-key --init
sudo pacman-key --populate archlinux manjaro
sudo pacman -Sy gnupg archlinux-keyring manjaro-keyring
sudo pacman-key --refresh-keys
sudo pacman -Syu

Fail-same error  (i did not reboot yet, do I do so?)
also I note that pamac notification tells me I have 422 packages to upgrade, but sudo pacman -Syu shows Packages (432)

Oh wait. apparently, I cant install gimp

[codic@danger ~]$ sudo pacman -S gimp
[sudo] password for codic:

Dependency hell!!

Upgrading pamac

Okay a reboot didnt help

sudo pacman-mirrors -f5

then try again, the signatures file may not be the issue. just a bad set of mirrors not accessible from where you live at the top of your mirror list.

also, how old is the ISO? you shouldn't really be using anything older than 18.1.5

I don't know-I downloaded the iso under 1 month ago.
I'll try sudo pacman-mirrors -f5, thanks.

Ok I ran that.

Then a sudo pacman -Syyu. Exact same error. Any other ideas?

You still get the keyring error, right?
The order in your script is different than in the tutorial. Can you go through the tutorial again, entering each command in CLI and post command and output here?

Some of the commands take some time. Give me a couple minutes

==> Updating trust database...
gpg: next trustdb check due at 2020-05-31

Do I need to do the drastic measures part? It did fail, but I can run it again to give you output

yes well you may need to clear out /var/cache/pacman/pkg completely and start again. A tip for the future is never use pamac to do a large system update, especially the first after install. Instead update the mirrors using the command I gave in the earlier post and then do:

sudo pacman -Syyu

I understand. I'd suggest to the Manjaro developers to then not have notifications saying there's an update available and when clicked use pamac hehe.
So I can do

rm -rf /var/cache/pacman/pkg

What will that do? Remove all pacman packages?

Ok it seems to just be a cache. Now is removing it bluntly safe? Or pacman -Sc? or paccache?

I have bluntly removed things from pacman and yay caches without encountering an error. That being said there's probably a better way and a reason why.
