Manjaro XFCE keeps getting stuck

Hey all, I have been having this problem for quite a while now and I have absolutely no idea why this keeps happening.

I am running manjaro(18.0.2) xfce (4.13) and my laptop keeps getting stuck all the time!
initially this started happening for daily applications I use like Firefox suddenly crashes, and incase of vscode it completely becomes unresponsive, followed by a stuck screen.... when the while laptop is stuck, my power button's lights keep twinklings and Idk why.

Can someone please help me out of this nightmare?

Most problems like this is due to either hardware problems or graphics.

@linux-aarhus My laptop was primarily "made" for windows 10 home. Do you think that might be an issue? because every time I installed linux on this, my whole computer is super slow

This is a broad description for almost any and all issues.

Linux and Manjaro is normally not making your computer slow. This has to be some hardware/driver related issue.

What are your experience using the live media? Is the computer acting as slow as you describe - assuming the description is while running a bare metal installation.

It usually starts out to be super fast, and over time it starts having problems like these, or the graphics drivers are probably slow and that makes it hard to run apps like vscode which can be resource hungry for large files and lots of extensions

same happens for firefox I guess, extensions, tabs etc.

nobody besides you knows what kinds of hardware you have. please post:

i would bet on this being nouveau drivers. you can go with nonfree which is bumblebee by default, or if performance is more your intended goal go with PRIME and use the video-nvidia drivers. this requires a little manual intervention but that link is to a very good and easy to follow tutorial.

if you want to go with bumblebee you can
sudo mhwd -a pci nonfree 0300

if you end up with a black screen or not fully booting and getting stuck, you can add parameters at grub.
move grub selector to manjaro and dont press enter and instead press E then find the word quiet and replace it with one or both of the following making sure there is a single space before and after each.
acpi_osi=!
acpi_osi="Windows 2009"

if this works to get you booted, you can make it permanent by
sudo nano /etc/default/grub
and adding parameters to this line
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="acpi_osi=!"
save/exit nano
sudo update-grub

here is also a bumblebee troubleshooting tutorial if you run into issues with BB

Hey guys I tried to install the nonfree drivers and then uninstalled the free drivers according to a video that was linked in the wiki/above link

When I restarted my laptop, the computer doesn't boot now. I tried to use a bootable USB which has manjaro xfce on it, it gave me the same problems even when I was booted through the USB drive... Computer crashes or gets stuck with power lights blimping....

Even worse, after the next reboot into the USB drive, it basically doesn't even start like manjaro on my USB starts booting (lines appear etc) and then at the end it shows a call stack with an error like "null pointer dereference etc"

Can someone please help me with this?
