Networkmanager not working properly after boot

I have a problem with my ethernet-connection using Networkmanager.

After boot the ethernet connection is flipping on-off for a random numbers of times before it's finally connecting (Between 1-10mins). This is happening with or without DHCP enabled. IPv6 is disabled via kernel parameter.

Thank you for your help.

You use a static IP setting, so a DHCP will not help.

However, never set a manual Link negotiation (Speed and Duplex). Use always "automatic".

it is not working with automatic, just changed it to make sure no dhcp-client-conflict is interrupting NM.

NM can do many things automatic. I'm talking about "Link negotiation". This has noting to do with IP's.

My DHCP statement was about the IPv4 settings Method "Manual", that your config files show.

"Link negotiation" and "IPv4 settings Method" are completely different things.

this was my standard configuration:

  • Automatic dhcp client configuration
  • Automatic link negotiation

My router is working properly with any other device.

ofc i tried anything with standard configuration first. This were just a few fixed settings to rule out some errors.

The 1 line in the logs which gives me headache is:

NetworkManager[752]: <warn> [1575651532.3590] acd[0x557ced112590,2]: couldn't init ACD for announcing addresses on interface 'eth0': Operation not permitted

any idea if this could be related to the error?

Might be a little bit problematic to fix.

thx, didnt suspected it to be a íntel driver issue. Worked very well for me before.

Maybe it is not, but there are some similarities.

Sometimes installing the e1000e driver from the AUR helps with some issues. Be sure to install the correct Linux-headers package for your kernel version before installing the driver.

Use the command below. It will install the linux-headers automatically for all installed kernels.

sudo pacman -S $(pacman -Qsq "^linux" | grep "^linux[0-9]*[-rt]*$" | awk '{print $1"-headers"}' ORS=' ')

Restart.

Then install the driver package e1000e-dkms from the AUR using pamac, (or any other AUR helper).

Reboot again.

Testing several alternate kernels and older linux-firmware versions might also be worth trying as well.

If @xabbu can't get you fixed up then there might not be much hope. @xabbu is the best with these types of issues you will find on the forum.

I tried to install the e1000e-dkms package from AUR but it does not work.

The AUR package seems to be broken for me.

The last comment on the AUR page shows what you need to do.

It builds with 4.9 but not with 5.4. I did not try 5.3.

As @xabbu and myself already mentioned, try testing with alternate kernels. Older LTS kernels often are the ones to try when you experience network issues.

Updating to the new stable release with Kernel 5.4 fixed the problem for me.
