NetworkManager showing blank screen and will not connect to any network

When I turned on my desktop today, I was not able to connect to any network. In the screenshots below, you can see that there are no options available:

screenshot1

When I ran ifconfig, it's just shwoing eno1, enp6s0, and lo. There is nothing for wireless (wlp8s0?) which I usually use. I connected an ethernet cable and still nothing showed up under ifconfig - no internet connection either.

Here is my journalctl output:

[eniac@eniac-pc ~]$ journalctl -u NetworkManager

I had to use a usb to get this output off of my machine since it is still not connecting to any network. I did not install any updates which would be my first guess and I have no other kernels installed that I can switch to (mistake on my part). Does anybody know how I could fix this? I am happy to provide any more output if it would help.

Edit: When booting, it stays on this message for about a minute and a half:

[*** ] A start job is running for Samba NMB Daemon (1min 8s / 1min 31s)

And in journalctl -rit says

Cant load /etc/samba/smb.conf - run testparm to debug it\n

We got some errors while running tesprm "Load smb config files from /etc/samba/dmb.conf\nError loading services.\n

I have tried systemctl disable smb.service and nmb.service and restarting which did not fix that issue, leading me to think it's unrelated to the network.

I dealt with a similar issue within the last several days that was resolved by the hard power down with full bios reset procedure. You can search the forum for posts I've made with those keywords for further info.

Good luck.

Please post an up to date:

Your linked output is over 2 years old.

Have you tested different kernels including several LTS kernels.

Hey @tbg - thanks, I believe this is the post:

I have been struggling to find the steps in the forum though. It it just a hard shutdown then going into the BIOS and finding its reset option?

I also tried sudo systemctl restart NetworkManager.

Please post your up to date specs.

It shouldn't be too hard to find. I've probably posted that info over 25 times:

I just did a hard shutdown then went into bios settings and restored to factory defaults, but all this did was change the secure boot to windows which I had to change back to 'other OS'. The issue persisted. I then cleared the RTC RAM wth the following link and IT WORKED!
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/716738/Asus-Sabertooth-Z97-Mark-1.html?page=40

Also, note that the only thing that was different when I restarted my computer and had this issue was that I dual booted into Windows for the first time in a while beforehand. Pesky Windows.

Thank you very much @tbg!

If your wifi fails again be sure to disable MAC Address randomization.

Glad you got it working.
