Performance issues after update to Lysia

Hi,

I'm using Manjaro i3 edition. The system itself was installed a few years ago. I updated regularly without any issues but this time after latest update I have terrible performance drop. Even my 4K video screensaver has begun to work in 10 FPS :confused:

I'm not really sure what could have happened...

I've updated a moment ago, but of course, this did not help with the issue I'm having.

Kind of suspected that. You might want to upgrade your kernel as well to see if you get better performance. Hopefully other forum members will chime in with more informed suggestions.

mhwd -l tells us whats available ... not what you have selected/installed. --li will though:

(my guess is its bumblebee .. and you probably want PRIME .. I would also try upping the kernel)

Yes, I'm now on 5.4-36; the issue is still present.

I was worried it might be bumblebee as well. I hoped it didn't start acting weird all of the sudden :slightly_frowning_face:

I'm a bit afraid of the switch as it seems to have a lot of steps that can go wrong and this is my main work machine. But I might have no choice at this point.

No.. just use mhwd/MSM to install one of the prime options then use it like optirun. ex:

prime-run glxgears

Thanks but it seems I can't do it since when I try to install video-hybrid-intel-nvidia-435xx-prime I get a message that I can't do it because of bumblebee is installed but when I try to remove it, I got a warning that it brakes dependency nvidia and can't be removed :confounded:

Sounds like a dependency cycle.
But without the actual output its hard to make a suggestion.

Ok, I was able to switch to PRIME but this didn't solve my issues :confused:

Something holds the system down and I have no idea what.

I just did a geekbench test and while having 100% CPU all the time the result was 228 single core and 607 multi while on April 5th I had 971 and 3672. Both on the same OS just with the previous version of Manjaro...

Are there any other debug commands I can try to find more information?

By using cpupower and googling a lot of stuff regarding cpu issues I stumbled upon https://www.dell.com/community/Laptops-General-Read-Only/Dell-XPS-9550-CPU-Multiplier-Stuck-at-8/td-p/4740654 which actually solved it.

It was some sort of coincidence that this happened right after update of Manjaro. Sorry for the false alarm, but maybe my case will help someone else :slight_smile:
