Reboot is not working, getting stuck

Hi Guys,

Could you please help me with this issue:
I noticed this happening from time to time in the past but now it is happening every time I try to restart. I am using latest Manjaro XFCE and when I restart it gets stuck at this screen:
Manjaro_reebot_fail

If I long press the power off button and then start it again it starts ok, then works fine, but fails again when I try to restart.
Any idea how to fix this or what is causing it?

Thank You!

Catalin

Hello,

could you please provide more information on your hardware and software with

inxi --full --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host

and information on the last failed (re)boot with

sudo journalctl -b -1

so the boot before the one you use has to have failed to reboot!

Please read this post on how to format the output for better readability. (These symbols ``` at the beginning and the end of each output)

Hello Kaventsmann,

Thank you for your answer, and for indicating how to format the text, it is really helpful.
Please find below the outputs:

inxi --full --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host

and the output of sudo journalctl -b -1 after a failed reboot (I have just had a failed reboot before writing this post so you can find the time of the issue easier in the logs. Now the time is: Sat 16 May 2020 10:05:20 AM EEST):

I tried to paste here all the output but then it complained that there were too many lines and it cannot save the post so I uploaded to a google drive and here is the link, I hope it is accessible and this is the right way to do it:
sudo journalctl -b -1

I hope this helps, thank you!

Fixing recursive fault but reboot is needed!

So far I can tell you that it is a problem with your video card and/or driver. When did you install the laptop and did you have similar problems before? Since when do you experience this specific problem?
Please provide the output of

dmesg

and put it in a pastebin. The next output should be short enough to post here between ```

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log

After posting that, could you disable your AMD GPU in the BIOS to see whether this changes the situation? At the moment your Intel GPU is used for OpenGL anyway.

EDIT: Using a pastebin is just fine. Personally I prefer 8n1.org but any pastebin is ok.

Hi,

The laptop has been installed in the beginning of February 2020 and it worked fine, then some time ago, not sure when, this issue appeared for the first time. It happened intermittently not so often maybe once or twice a month, something like that. Since this week it seems to be happening all the time when I reboot the laptop.

Here's the output of dmesg .

And:

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log

I will disable the GPU in BIOS and let you know.

EDIT: I've just did some tests with dedicated GPU disabled and indeed the issue disappeared. At the first boot after disabling it I got some video artefacts when opening and moving windows but then after I reboted these artefacts were goone.

Thank You!

My guess would be that the 2GB video RAM is damaged, which would explain the page issues. If you can live without the AMD GPU I'd advise you to stick with the Intel one.

You are welcome
