restart and lid-close problem with optimus-manager

Hi all! hope you are doing well.
I am facing this problem since about 3 months hoping it would correct itself with an update(which is not the case at the time of writing this) before creating a thread on this forum.
So I set up my laptop with optimus-manager using this guide.
Sometimes, when I cold boot my laptop, It shows login screen and when I pass it, It just shows a blank screen with a cursor on top left. But sometimes it just works when I restart and shows nVidia icon in the argos gnome extension.
Also, when I close and open the lid, It shows same blank screen with a cursor on top left. But as before, it just works when I restart.
I am attaching Xorg log files when it works and when it doesn't.
I always want to run nvidia dedicated gpu and I have done the setting with optimus-manager.

Please bear with me, I am new here

I'm not expert on this so I can't point directly the cause but there are many problems in the background.

Icon warnings are not the problem here, but you need to install or reinstall some icon packages, or purge them carefully so the system wouldn't look for them. This is a common problem. You install some icon pack, uninstall it and then everything complains about lacking them... This is topic on its own, but it's not the direct cause of the issue here.

This sounds disturbing, but I can't recognize it, hopefully someone will.

The main issue seems to be here (but I may be wrong)

This looks like ACPI problem. Please read and try this:

Also, in optimus-manager settings, try out other switching methods then ACPI call, because it seems to be problematic for you.

You have also

(WW) Open ACPI failed (/var/run/acpid.socket) (No such file or directory)

but this isn't a big issue, at least not for me, because I have the same warning and things work fine on my end. Or maybe this is because I don't use ACPI to switch the cards?

I would also check again:

/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/
/etc/X11/

to see if everything is just like in the tutorial (graphical confs disabled). Maybe you run Nvidia settings and it added some confing?

With resume issue, just to be sure, I would also check fstab settings and hooks in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf

There should be resume somewhere in the end.

Maybe you could add to grub config this parameter:

resume=/dev/sda4 resume_offset=1363968 - of course, change the path and the number according to the fstab and don't forget to grub-update after the change or use grub-customizer.

Hi thanks for quick reply.
So I followed the ACPI guide which you provided.
after applying correct ACPI parameter, I cold booted 5-6 times and got the problem only once.
I believe it will still occur but less frequent, I would be happy if there would be a permanent fix though.
As far as resume is concerned, I added kernel parameters you provided and also followed this guide but got no luck.
The issue is more frequent when I close the lid rather than just pressing power button for sleep but it occurs anyway.
It feels like x server just fails to resume and restarts itself, that too with intel graphics. And also when I use that session, there is audio problems. Ultimately I have to just restart my laptop.

Resume issues are unfortunately a common thing in Linux. When I installed my OS 4 years ago, I couldn't use resume because it produced many errors and session was bugged. Then after a year it all fixed itself and I could use it for 3 years without a bigger problem. Recently something changed my wifi isn't working after suspend, so I had to switch lid closing to 'screen off' and suspend is no longer an option for me anymore... Very likely, on LTS systems that bug would not be there yet...

So like you see, those things are in constant flux and sometimes things go better with time, sometimes they get worse, but luckily this happens less frequently.

And oh, did I wrote about tlp settings? Study those and maybe changing some of tlp settings may fix your problem, because you can delay certain processes (thus ensuring some race conditions won't happen), disable, enable turning off/on certain hardware parts and so on. Experiment with it. It may not do anything or do everything.
