Slow hotspot

Internet speed of hotspot thrown by Manjaro Kde is very very slow. Internet speed is not even 100kbps when using it's hotspot. Is there any way to make it's hotspot speed fast as in windows 10 hotspot?
Same case in XFCE too.

Perhaps you should post some system specs?

Are you not using your built in wifi adapter?

Is the Ralink wifi adapter listed in lspci what you are trying to get working.

You keep referring to a "hotspot". Are you using this term improperly instead of WIFI. Are you trying to get your Ralink wifi adapter working? You need to clarify this before we can make any progress here.

Have you tested other kernels?

Install and test at least 3 alternate kernels. You should always have at least 2 kernels installed, and you can have as many kernels as you want installed with Manjaro.

Is your bios up to date?

If not you should update your bios.

If you are trying to get your Ralink wifi adapter's speed to improve (unknown as yet) then perhaps disabling wifi powersaving may help matters.

Read this post of mine:

Test both troubleshooting steps listed there (reboot afterwards), then test for improvements.

I meant I used to throw wifi hotspot in windows 10 and it would result upto same speed as my isp subscription but in manjaro distro it is only showing about 100kbps speed in wifi hospot.

Yes it is listed in lspci and it is my default wifi adapter.

Yes I mean wifi hotspot so I can share my laptop's internet (Ethernet) connection in my room to use internet from mobile and other devices. No, I am not trying to get my Ralink wifi adapter working rather it's working fine but shared internet speed through wifi hotspot is incredibly slow.

There is no need to update your bios if your internal wifi adapter's speed is satisfactory. If you cannot get full speed out of your internal Ralink wifi adapter (using Linux) then a bios update would be a good idea.

I would not say a bios update is dangerous (if done correctly), but it must be done properly or it could result in serious problems. If you have a dual boot with Windows, a bios update should be very easy. A bios update through Linux is definitely more complicated.

  1. Are you dual booting?

  2. How are you measuring your speed?

  3. Have you ever installed any other Linux distro before? If so, which distro's and what were your speeds like?

  4. Kernel 5.7 is still experimental. Have you tested other kernels? If you have tested other kernels, which kernels have you tested?

  5. Have you tested any other Manjaro DE's from a live boot disk? I would highly suggest testing other DE's from live boot media and testing your speed. Test some other live boot disks from another distro such as Ubuntu and report your speeds off of other live boot disks.

  6. Have you tested disabling the power saving options as I instructed in the link I gave? Any changes are easily reversible if they do not result in improvement. If you have not tested the troubleshooting steps I gave regarding powersaving, then I'm wondering why you haven't. If you did test the changes then I'm wondering why you haven't reported on it. Remote troubleshooting is very difficult if you do not report on all troubleshooting steps. Please report on this troubleshooting step.

  7. Please explain in detail how you are attempting to share your internet connection. Are you trying to share your Ethernet connection through your wifi? Your Ethernet connection is listed as being down in your inxi output, so I am confused as to your setup. Please explain how you are trying to create a hotspot.

Your wifi adapter must fully support acting as an AP in Linux for use as a hotspot. You can install the nm-connection-editor package if it is not already installed. Run it, use a + icon on bottom left to add a new network of type "WiFi", and then, while configuring it, set "Client" mode to "Hotspot".

Yes I am dual booting windows 10 and Manjaro Gnome. Right now I am using kernel linux414.

You will need to configure wifi sharing yourself if you have not already done so. I already gave you links for configuring your hotspot yourself. You will need to read the information and configure the hotspot yourself.

I just noticed the Manjaro Gnome part of this response. Did you do a separate install on completely different partitions for your Manjaro KDE install. Or, did you simply install Gnome and KDE desktops together?

In one computer I have dual booted windows and gnome and in another computer I have dual booted windows and kde. Actually one is my computer and another is my brother's. We do have exactly same HP notebook15 pc.
