[SOLVED] Can't connect bluetooth mouse after powering off the system

Are you connecting via 5G to your router. Using 2.4 Ghz with the combo chips can greatly interfere with bluetooth operation.

The Arch wiki has some parts that might be helpful:

The troubleshooting section:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bluetooth#Troubleshooting

Also, the ArchWiki page specifically covering bluetooth mice:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bluetooth_mouse

If you don't mind trying again, could you reboot and start up with the wl driver loaded.

Once you have rebooted could you please post the full output of:

lsmod
sudo systemctl status bluetooth
journalctl | grep -i bluetooth
dmesg | grep -i bluetooth

One very weird thing is that I tried flashing my BIOS and after that I managed to get Bluetooth pairing with the mouse. But as soon as I shutdown and unplugged the AC and then started up again it stopped working. It still works just fine in Windows 10. I so confused right now!

As evidenced by the journal and dmesg, you've got a firmware problem. Do you have this package installed:

bluez-firmware

If it's not installed, give it a try. If it is installed then uninstall and reinstall it. I'm not sure if it's the right broadcom firmware but it's worth a try.

Tried bluez-firmware. No changes.

Uninstall the previous firmware I asked you to install.

Install the bluetooth firmware package bcm20703a1-firmware from the AUR.

This post on the Arch forum fits your error exactly:

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=224626

You need to install this firmware:

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/bcm20703a1-firmware/

Then rename the firmware as specified in that Arch forum post with this command:

sudo cp /lib/firmware/brcm/BCM20703A1-0a5c-6410.hcd /lib/firmware/brcm/BCM-0a5c-6410.hcd

I did that. It does seem to have resolved the issue with "brcm/BCM-0a5c-6410.hcd not found" bluetooth still isn't working. Now I can't detect any devices.

Here is output from "sudo systemctl status bluetooth":

[silsab@GBGCON-SILSAB ~]$ sudo systemctl status bluetooth
[sudo] lösenord för silsab:

However as stated I can't detect any devices. When trying to initiate pairing from the terminal I get this:

[silsab@GBGCON-SILSAB ~]$ sudo bluetoothctl

And here is output from "journalctl -b | grep Bluetooth":

Oh man, I figured that would fix you up with the proper firmware. I'm more up on my Broadcom wifi stuff, more so than Bluetooth. I don't use Bluetooth so it's all a shot in the dark as far as the configuration for me. I have Bluetooth disabled on my desktops.

I'm hoping this is only a software configuration issue now, but truthfully I'm not sure what's causing the connection to fail. Maybe someone who's up on their Bluetooth can lend a hand. I know @linux-aarhus is pretty good with that stuff, maybe if your lucky he'll pop in to lend you a hand.

Sorry but I'm heading out now for the weekend and I'll only have my cell with me. Having only my cell is very limiting so I don't think I'll be much help till I have use of a Linux computer again.

Good luck.

I think I finally got it!

The AUR package didn't contain the specific file I needed. So I found this github repo that did: winterheart/broadcom-bt-firmware

So I cloned it, took the file BCM20703A1-0a5c-6410.hcd from there and copied it to /lib/firmware/brcm/BCM-0a5c-6410.hcd

Have tried rebooting and shuting the computer off once and it's still working so fingers crossed now!

Thank so very, very much! You're a champ!

Uh, I knew that one too, but my memory failed me on the name. I went with what turned up on my search on the Arch forum. I have no idea why someone hasn't made an AUR package for that. Your the third person in the last while looking for that, but I couldn't remember that name.

So glad you got it fixed, nice work.

(edit)

The winterheart/broadcom-bt-firmware is now available in the AUR as:

broadcom-bt-firmware-git
