[SOLVED] Gnome notification about new added printer appears again and again

Hello,
I am using Manjaro since many years now and finally I now decided to make a fresh install to get rid off all the old ■■■■■ Since the new installation I have a small problem in Gnome with the printer.

Every few minutes a notification appears "Printer added".

In the cups-log I found this:

localhost - root [17/Mar/2020:15:35:38 +0100] "POST /admin/ HTTP/1.1" 200 188 CUPS-Add-Modify-Printer successful-ok
localhost - root [17/Mar/2020:15:39:52 +0100] "POST /admin/ HTTP/1.1" 200 164 CUPS-Delete-Printer successful-ok
localhost - root [17/Mar/2020:15:40:00 +0100] "POST /admin/ HTTP/1.1" 200 188 CUPS-Add-Modify-Printer successful-ok

Anyone an idea for a solution for me?

Thanks in advance.
Thorsten

This probably due to printer broadcasting itself using the zeroconf protocol.

You can disable Avahi zeroconf - this may have other implications for your system.

  • Edit /etc/cups/cups-browsed.conf , change the BrowseRemoteProtocols CUPS dnssd line to BrowseRemoteProtocols none
  • Restart CUPS from Terminal service cups restart

Many thanks, this solved my problem.
