[Stable Update] 2018-01-29 - Kernels, Mesa, Xorg-Server, Browsers, MSM, MHWD, GCC

@oberon
Until now, there has been no update of the kernel49 in my repository. With Kernel 4.9.78-1 the problem with the vboxdrv modules still exists.

As per the item in the Known Issues post,

sudo pacman-mirrors -f 3
sudo pacman -Syyu

That's the result:

[otto@sam-manjaro ~]$ uname -a
Linux sam-manjaro 4.9.78-1-MANJARO #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Jan 24 12:59:31 UTC 2018 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Hm. I thought all working packages were in the repos now...

You could try temporarily switching to testing to see if the issue is resolved in the next batch of updates.

Everything seems OK, but when I try to launch Firefox, I always get this error message: Screenshot_20180201_115057

Here's my system configurarion, via Screenfetch:

It's also in the Known Issues post.

I am just going to put this out there on my personal experience this has been the worst update to stable that I ever remember. Yuck. :mask:
The weird thing is pure Arch never had issues and my Testing box (now using) has been stable too. Of course I am scared to install updates on either pc now until things are ironed out.

Yup. The "retpoline" patches have really messed everything around.

I suspect the next batch that's in testing will work just fine:

hahaha, but I am scared to test it on my testing since my main box is down and out. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
May have to sit this one out. :grinning:

True and respect to the people who work round the clock to deliver these packages and fix issues for the community.

Of course, no disrespect was intended.

Thank you torvic. I'll go there now.

Yes we are on the same line I think, it is not the best experience but at the same time we know it's challenging to deliver every week a flawless experience with so many moving parts. And now with Manjaro being the #1 distro there is pressure!

It's #1 to me, but am I missing something? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

It was briefly in the #1 position on Distrowatch (which means nothing other than people visit its page on Distrowatch :wink:).

Ah, I should have known :wink:

I have to do pacman -Syyuu to downgrade the intel-ucode package. Or just as usual pacman -Syu ?
:sweat_smile::thinking:

I was thinking the same thing, I think it would be totally safe and beneficial to use the downgrade command. sudo pacman -Syyuu or as I think about it the update-downgrade command.

You have to double the u in order to force the downgrade offered in Manjaro official repository.

Therefore, -Syyuu.
