Thunderbird 60

After several years, there's a new feature-release for Thunderbird! Great to see things are alive and kicking!

It's still my favourite mail client.

Agreed. Can't wait for it to hit Manjaro.

Been using the 60.X beta for a while.

Currently in Arch Linux staging

Just be prepared for your addons to stop working... :unamused:

In the greater scheme of things, it's a temporary inconvenience. I'm willing to deal with it for technical refresh.

I don't use much, thankfully. But I do expect some like firetray and manually sort folders to break in this version.

For addons compatibility you can try to set on false extensions.strictCompatibility in about:config

I've not personally tested it yet, of course

P.S: could someone that had already try Thunderbird 60 share his feelings/impression about it? I'm a little bit curious.

Works fine here.
Looks nice, feels snappy.

But it needs icu, glibc, lib32-glibc pumped up in order to work though.
icu from Arch staging
and the glibcs in our Unstable work

....which breaks things. So dont do what I did trying to get it to run :stuck_out_tongue:

Only addons I use which is not part of Thunderbird is Enigmail. And I don't use it that often anyway.

Of course "try"
Probably doesn't work with "Theme Font & Size Changer for Thunderbird"

I use all these, so feel rather nervous about this impending upgrade...

Then I can be cool

Well, lightning is now part of Thunderbird it self. At least in the beta.

in all versions not just beta, it has been for a couple of releases

I've pondered this since you posted it, & still cannot decide if this is satire or serious :grinning:

Yes i know, & until i looked up my current Add-ins for my post i had forgotten that Lightning is still listed there. I presume that logically i should even now be able to remove that AI without breaking my current TB/L setup, but i don't wish to risk it. Methinks i'll experiment first in one of my VMs.

Nonetheless, my nervousness remains for the bulk of those other AIs... one or two are frippery that won't much matter to lose, but most are intrinsic to my daily TB/L workflow.

Serious, I have only one addon, so I can stay cool.

technically lightning is still listed as an extension that can be disabled or removed. if you use it, don't remove it

Sounds good although I've recently moved on to Evolution for the EWS compatibility (for work).
So far it's not bad.
