Trouble adding Brother MFC-9130CW scanner

Hello Everyone,

As the topic suggests, I've tried multiple avenues to add the scanner of my all-in-one printer, the Brother MFC-9130CW.

So far I have successfully added print capability using the AUR MFC-9130CW driver, printer-config command, CUPS, etc.

For scanning I have gone to the brother website and added the brother scan utility. I cannot get recognized in document scanner (simple-scan) or xsane.

Vuescan DOES work, but I do not wish to purchase it if I can help it.

Any ideas?

Sincerely,
Brian

Hello and welcome to Manjaro!

If you search for your device on the internet like so

you'll get a result like this

where you can navigate to 'Scanner Driver' and if you were to agree to the EULA you could download it, which wouldn't help.
But you saw that the driver you need is called brscan4, which is available in the AUR.

So open pamac and search for brscan4, install it and follow this tutorial from 2:10 forward.

You now should be able to scan via the network.

This information is also available via the Arch Wiki

Kaventsmann,

Thanks for the quick reply and the help. I would call this a partial solution.

Simple scanner now finds my scanner, I can press the scan button and the ADF functions and moves the paper. However, I'm getting an 'Failure to Scan, Error communicating with scanner' dialogue.

I'll keep digging in the Arch Wiki. I'm sure there is a setting I'm missing somewhere.

Brian
