Try removing and reinstalling your current theme. If that doesn't help try a different theme and see if the problem persists. Themes can sometimes break after a system update.
You can make a second user account to run Plasma on but I don't advise it, using a separate user account mitigates the risks but you could still run in to conflicts.
I think it was 4 in the morning when I read your first post so I missed the peculiarities, why is sddm your display manager if you're running gnome? Have you already been trying to mix gnome and kde?
Hi,
I'm have installed and using KDE plasma, because of the error the OS switched automatically to Gnome. I'm not getting options for switch back to KDE and after logging inside its a Gnome GUI. As mentioned earlier I tried Timeshift to previous date it didn't fixed/worked. I searched the community I didn't find and specific post on this issue.
I'm clueless whats happening to my OS.
The entries will be dated, copy all the entries beginning from the day before this problem started. Paste it here, highlight the text and click the icon that looks like </> so I can read it easily.
It's looks like you was running an update and the log abruptly stops, did you power off or something while it was updating? Or was you trying to do something else?
I can't tell if this was an interrupted update,or if you was trying to uninstall something and removed most of your desktop environment without noticing. I'm leaning towards the latter.
It seems that there may be a fair bit you've forgotten to tell me
Dude, you uninstalled pretty much your entire desktop environment, I'd call that a major change!
Look at my above post, see all those 'removed' lines? That's KDE. I can't tell what the transaction was you started because you was using pamac, and because you're not telling me.
There is no mention of Gnome in the logs you posted except for a couple of gtk utilities so either it isn't installed or you installed it at an earlier date. If you had a functional desktop when you started this thread there must have been something there but I can only make guesses based on the limited information you've provided.
Best guess, you installed conky and conky manager and for whatever reason pulled in
plasma-sdk (5.17.4.1)
Along with it.
You then uninstalled conky/manager and the plasma-sdk and it took everything else with it.
The solution is to reinstall the packages you removed
I guess you've already reinstalled but I'll give you one last bit of advice. When you uninstall any application, it will often remove the dependencies as well. In the case of a stock application, ie the ones that were there when you installed your os, you're liable to remove core parts of the system resulting in situations like this. Keep that in mind when removing software in the future.
Hopefully you learn something from this, It's certainly been educational for me!
