Update / pacman / keyring problem

First, Hello all. I can't remember if I have done this, but...

2nd it seems I have some bad keys. this has been a problem for over 24 hours now.

3rd - I have tried to rename the /etc/pacman.d/gnupg and re-initialise it, as described here:
bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?Id=208447.
The process does seem to be successful, but it's not fixing the problem
Here is the detail from my last attempt.

Thank you for your time.

Have you tried installing the keyrings first?

sudo pacman -S manjaro-keyring archlinux-keyring

I have done that once, yes. That was about 18 hours ago, I should perhaps try it again...
Thanx Lolix.

... actually, you may be onto something there. I did it for the manjaro-keyring but I don't think I did the archlinux-keyring. I will go try that right now...

I'm going to reboot and see what happens...

Try a "pacman -Syy" before doing the "-Syyu" please?

Regards

sudo pacman-mirrors sudo pacman -Syy sudo pacman -S archlinux-keyring manjaro-keyring sudo pacman-key --init sudo pacman-key --populate archlinux manjaro sudo pacman-key --refresh-keys

then
sudo -Syu

LOL - sorry - too slow...

Slight update. That didn't work, had a slight tantrum. Created a new VM (about number 14) and installed Majaro Mate again. Got to the first round of updates and that hung up, mostly on xorg stuff. Un-clicked those... Threw in a 4.10.0-? kernel, and went to restart and see if I could then get the latest xorg stuff. Hung on boot...
Went to the new kernel fallback and tried that. Hung on boot...
Went to the old kernel ....
Went to the old kernel fallback....

I reluctantly concede I'm perhaps not suited to Arch.

You can run Ubuntu or Mint and it's like owning a new or near-new car. But any Arch is like buying an old Aussie 6 for a thousand bucks and dropping in the short motor your neighbours had for $50 and a hottie head from the wreckers... It's going to be a lot of fun and you can get performance and features and stuff out of it, for a total of three grand, that rival a new car worth fifty. And you get the fun of doing it yourself. But if you drop the head on top of the deck and new gasket, during assembly, and crimp one of the metal rings, then that gasket's going to blow after four days, probably while you're on the wrong side of the Great Divide, showing off to your wife and kids how well your 'new' car works... Arch is like that. You do it yourself. And it's fun, and you learn some stuff, but it's probably not what you want as a daily driver, because some time you're going to come out in a suit, to go to the annual general meeting, and a rod is going to come though the block about the end of your street...

When something like that happens once, that's hapstance. When it happens twice, that's (maybe) coincidence. But when it keeps happening, either I am not competant to run it, or the people who maintain it are not competant to run it...

... more likely, it's me, but .... if you don't know which end of a shifter to pick it up by, then maybe you shouldn't try and build your own engines...

... on the bright side, this IS why you have virtual machines... It's linux, so you don't have to BUY old cars, or parts, or tools, you just have to pick up the buckets of soup and use a strainer. But ... Arch is a bit DIY.

Um, not really. Manjaro is "Arch-inspired" and installation routines are completely different.

If you want successful updates, please explicitly follow @philm's update announcements. Make sure you also have the latest ISO to start.

The keyring errors compound the problem, and since you first have to update the mirrors, you should do that first. You might want to do that first from the Live ISO prior to installing--a developer will have a better opinion on that.

The important thing to recognize that Manjaro is not Ubuntu or Mint or whatever. There are different processes here. You were just unlucky enough to fall between a release date and keyring updates. The next released ISO will probably not have that problem.

In the meantime, relax and please be patient. Folks here want you to be able to enjoy the advantages of Manjaro, but remember that with any leading- or bleeding-edge product, you might suffer a small fall.

Regards

good tip from @Lolix. you missed the last command linked in his post:

also, the following command failed on your system. this means, you cannot install any packages anymore:

it looks like you have messed up you key management pretty badly. it always baffles me to see that. what have you done?

the easiest way to fix you problem: use the "fix pacman errors" option in pacui. but you cannot install pacui anymore, either.

i recommend to download the "pacui" file directly from the github page. then, mark it as executable and start it in your terminal (i assume you know how to do this. ask, if this is not the case) and choose "fix pacman errors". it might take a while until everything is fixed.

edit: i have added a short description, how to download and execute the "pacui" file without prior installation: https://github.com/excalibur1234/pacui#execute-without-prior-installation

if this does not fix your problem, please post the output.
