virtualbox won't start the VMs

Hi
So I had been using virtualbox for 3 or 4 years with Manjaro and every time I updated the system:

sudo pacman -Syyu

nothing has happened to virtualbox but this time when I updated the system and rebooted I came across this error before getting to the GUI login part

everything went ok ( [ OK ] ) except this one:

[ FAILED ] Failed to start Load Kernel Modules.
See 'systemctl status systemd-modules-load'
Mounting Kernel Configuration File System...
Starting Apply Kernel Variables...
[ OK ] Mounted Kernel Configuration File System.
[ OK ] Started Create Static Device Nodes in /dev.
.
.

So I checked the error log with:

systemctl status systemd-modules-load.service

but didn't understand anything from it:

● systemd-modules-load.service - Load Kernel Modules
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/systemd-modules-load.service; static; vendor preset: disabled)
Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Tue 2019-09-17 18:40:22 +0430; 2h 3min ago
Docs: man:systemd-modules-load.service(8)
man:modules-load.d(5)

Sep 17 18:40:22 finex-pc systemd[1]: Failed to start Load Kernel Modules.

and when I started the virtualbox and started one of the VMs this is the error that showed me:

WARNING: The vboxdrv kernel module is not loaded. Either there is no module
available for the current kernel (4.9.190-1-MANJARO) or it failed to
load. Please recompile the kernel module and install it by

sudo /sbin/vboxconfig

You will not be able to start VMs until this problem is fixed.

There is no "sudo /sbin/vboxconfig" command in my Manjaro

I searched Manjaro forums, and came across this post:

my virtualbox-host-modules is up-to-date when I execute this command:

   sudo pacman -S linux49-virtualbox-host-modules

but as I execute the latter command:

  sudo /sbin/rcvboxdrv setup

It gives me this error:

Unloading modules:
Loading modules: modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'vboxnetadp': Invalid argument
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'vboxnetflt': Invalid argument
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'vboxpci': Invalid argument
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'vboxdrv': Invalid argument

I have no idea what should I do and all of my works are in virtualbox

my kernel is linux49 and my system is up-to-date
on second thought if I install another kernel ( linux419 or linux414 ) will my problem go away?
should I install 414 or 419? my laptop has an intel cpu

it really means a lot to me if someone could help me solve this problem.

with kind regards
zero

sudo vboxreload

sudo vboxreload

same result :cry::slightly_frowning_face:

Ensure the kernel modules are installed for your kernel.

If your kernel is unsupported or very old - install a more recent kernel e.g. linux419 and install the virtualbox modules

sudo pacman -Syu linux419 linux419-virtualbox-host-modules

Reboot the system

If problem is persistent - try uninstall and reinstall virtualbox - and extra packages like guest-iso and ext-oracle if also installed.

sudo pacman -Rns virtualbox linux419-virtualbox-host-hostmodules

Reboot and reinstall

No, no, I'm not. I'm in 4.9 . you weren't wrong at all :+1:
right now I'm trying to install the 4.19 from GUI kernel installer ( I know it's not professional but it ensures that I install everything ) for the record I didn't know what else should I install besides 4.19 but Kernel GUI eased my work:

linux419
linux419-bbswitch
linux419-virtualbox-host-modules

thank you so much @linux-aarhus . I didn't even needed to install virtualbox again and Linux didn't show me any error log or even kernel selection before login to the system.
you are the best! :+1:
