Vmware Workstation + git issue.

Hi, I've installed VMware Workstation to boot windows 10 but "git" commands have stopped working.
*|ERROR|
/usr/lib/git-core/git-remote-https: /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libcurl.so.4/libcurl.so.4: no version information available (required by /usr/lib/git-core/git-remote-https)
fatal: unable to access 'https://aur.archlinux.org/stacer.git/': SSL certificate problem: unable to get local issuer certificate

  • I've tried re-installing libcurl, openssl, git packages but didn't help.
  • After following this link, my "git" started working but my VMware stopped working.

Any workaround/help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance

Welcome to Manjaro.

Your library path is wrong somehow: libcurl.so.4 resides in /usr/lib.
Did you (accidentally or consciously) set LD_LIBRARY_PATH?
Please post output of

$ echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH

Please use the </> button or the three backticks ``` directly to properly format terminal output.

It seems VMware installs some git binaries and because Arch based hosts is unsupported those git binaries are linked against versions not available on Manjaro.

Your best chance to get it to work is to use the PKGBUILD from AUR

pamac build vmware-workstation$VERSION
/usr/lib/vmware/lib/libcurl.so.4:

I've used AUR to install VMWare workstation

If you did not alter your LD_LIBRARY_PATH then this is an issue with the AUR package as it is incredibly bad practice to globally override the LD_LIBRARY_PATH . You're now using whatever curl library is bundled with VMWare rather than the known-good packaged version.

If you did not alter your LD_LIBRARY_PATH then please report the issue to the AUR package maintainer.
