Which log to look when freeze?

Hi, my Manjaro KDE sometime freeze randomly, but not often. I suspect it is the KDE fault. Which log should I look at?
Kernel log? X.org log? Journald log? (I have ksystemlog)
This log must be there after I force restart my pc.

journalctl -b -1

Will allow you to see the entire system log from the previous boot. Hitting > will jump to the end.

journalctl -b -1 | tail -100

Will just display the last 100 lines of the log, which you can post and hopefully give us some idea of what is going on.

I also feel obligated to give @jonathon's standard response (I've seen it a few times):

“Random freezes” are almost always hardware-related (one or more of loose connections, poorly seated components, power, temperature).

You should also test your RAM (run memtest), and take the machine apart, clean it, and reseat all components.

There are plenty of threads with more detail on the forum.

Thanks for answer, once I get proper log detail aI will add more information. As this freeze is seldom and random.

Follow up question, I open steam(game dustribution platform) on Manjaro KDE and got soft freeze(freeze for a moment (youtube playing on the background)). What log should I look specific for with regards to steam. I want you guys to have info to fix it but I don't want to flood you with logs either. Thanks.

Anyway here is a log for soft freeze. Just gonna dum it here. I not expect some one get anything useful from this. Just gonna out it here.

Sorry for the late response, I tend disappear "online" during the weekend (and I took friday off).

Yeah the "-b -1" means to report the log from the "previous boot", "-b -2" would be two boots ago. And since in the soft frreeze there was no reboot, it just shows a normal shutdown.

Usually when I experience pauses in my system, it's usually disk related. First it's if I'm moving a huge amount of data around on the disk I can get the system very unresponsive because other programs are waiting to get "their" data from the disk. I think this might be more be a ZFS issue, so you might not be seeing it.

The second is when the machine is using a large amount of swap space. If memory is swapped out to disk, application can become unresponsive when they need that memory and the OS is busy reading it back into memory.

Top can give you a good idea of how much memory is swapped out to disk. Just look at the 5th line it will tell you how much swap is available and used. If it's using more than 50% of RAM that could definitely be the problem. (If you have no swap, that could also be a problem.)

If the disk is causing the issue, you can install sysstat, then in a terminal run:

iostat -kdx 15

It first reports disk usage since you booted, then every 15 seconds will report the "change" in disk usage. Interesting numbers are "rkB/s" and "wkB/s" which are the kilobytes read/written per second. If these values are large, in the 20 mb per second range (for hard drives, SSDs can go much higher) the computer might be waiting for the disk. The other values I watch are the "r_await" and "w_await" values, these are how long the computer waited for the disk to read/write some data. If these are in the 1000s (second) range, then the disk is having issues. If they are over 100, you are probably having issues.

The only other reason for a soft freeze that I can think of would be a video thing. If the game is starting up the 3d subsystem on the card, allocating resources and whatnot, I could see the card freezing the screen while the game is initializing it for the game. Although I would expect this to happen every time, or at least be repeatable, like if running program A and starting up program B the screen freezes briefly, then it's probably a video interaction between program A and B.
