Hi there. This is my story of why I switched from Windows to Manjaro.
So many people asked me "Why aren't you using Windows? It has the majority of applications which Linux doesn't have. It has a lot features too!" and to answer this, I would like to tell why Windows sucks (my opinion):
Privacy: Windows is always tracking you, from which apps you open, to logging your browsing history, etc. I read that Windows tracks you in 534 ways as explained here.
Now, some of you may say, you can disable this, remove that but it's too much of a hassle and it's very time consuming. Especially after Windows gets updated, everything is reset.
Useless apps: Windows has so many useless apps which cannot be uninstalled except when using Powershell commands or scripts but again it's very time consuming and that's why Linux stands at the top in terms of customization.
Too much hardware usage: With Windows tracking you, running useless apps and services running in the background, the idle RAM usage on my system was usually 3 GB and CPU usage was almost 30%. For users with low spec systems, Windows isn't a great choice.
Windows is not open-sourced: So you never know what may be running on your system and collecting your data, tracking you, etc.
Forced updates: Windows 10 literally forces you to install an update (which are downloaded automatically) and most people hate this.
There are some scripts and apps to block Windows updates, and you can pause a Windows update for 35 days but there is no selective downloading and installing of updates which is really annoying.
So, that's all I wanted to say about why I switched from Windows to Linux. Big thanks to the developers for this amazing OS!
