So i've updated raspberry, after having downloaded the OS image from github (not finding the arm img on main site). I updated firmware, but the speed is still 10 times slower then what I get on the phone.
Sometimes the speed improves after a reboot, but that's rare.
I'm not all that familiar with arm issues, but a general go to troubleshooting step is to disable IPv6 if you are suffering from slow speeds.

The package updates are slow, but using internet bandwidth benchmarks it's at best 6 times slower.

I am not sure of this image, can you share the link of the site you downloaded the image from?
Also if you're facing slow download in packages from manjaro repo then you can do this to make it use the closest mirror.
sudo pacman-mirrors --geoip && sudo pacman-mirrors -f 5 && sudo pacman - Syy

I suppose it might be the simple case of signal strength being poor, even if 5g network wont work on both raspbian and manjaro as well as being equivalently slow. I'll buy a wifi dongle. The speed substantially improves when I get 4 bars.
I thought my firmware or drivers were crap somehow. I downloaded the 20.04 image too.
